MY NAME IS DAN, BUT EVERYONE CALLS ME "MONSTER MAN DAN"

In the beginning....

My first real inspiration was, The creature from the black lagoon! Back in 1977 I took a foam wig head my Mom gave me, some cotton balls, paper and allot of paint and fabricated a likeness of the Creature. The fascination grew with constant viewing's of series like Night gallery, The outer limits and The Twilight zone. I often found myself trying to create creatures like those I had seen in the aforementioned series. I was and still am a fan of all b-movie monsters including Godzilla. In high school, I sculpted a little demon from stoneware clay in my art class much to the frustration of my teacher and although she was annoyed that I found things like still life and nature paintings boring,entered my little demon sculpt in a scholastic art contest at I.S.U on a whim. To this day I thank her for that because I won second place out of state in the sculpture category. Something that elevated me to a high status with her.Jumping a little farther in time, I had my first professional make-up artist gig in 1985 at a little haunted attraction in Pocatello. From that moment on, I was hooked on haunted attractions and went on to make masks,costumes and props for a local radio stations haunted attraction in 1997 which in turn landed me my first media interviews respectively, channel news 8 channel six The Idaho state journal, the Idaho falls post and the Blackfoot tribune. The following year I was sought after by each of these for Halloween/haunted attraction interviews year after year which eventually led me to create theater promotional props,costumes and make-ups for such movie promotions as Bram Stoker's Dracula,Alien three,Jurassic park, Shrek 2, Spiderman 2,Alien vs Predator Star trek first contact. How to train a dragon, and recently Insidious 2.In 2003, I was contracted to make a Bigfoot costume for a bigfoot convention held at I.SU. and was discovered by a production company for Discovery channel's Monster quest. We went on to make them a Bigfoot costume which we received an honorary nod from Dr. Meldron lead researcher and anthropologist at I.S.U. We also created for the production company {White wolf entertainment) A Werewolf as well as an Andien condor used as a computer model to scan in for a C.G.I WERE

I have held large make-up shows at The Pineridge mall pocatello painting over a thousand faces in that day. I have done at least three hundred or more personal make-ups on customers requiring anything from simple scars to elaborate make-ups including the Grinch, The Borg, Klingon's Vulcan's, Witch's, Frankenstein, the mummy, The wolf man. trolls, gargoyles,Vampires, We worked on a large stage production in Logan Utah for the Sunburst club to create 75 witch's, 75 learicon's Frankenstein's monster and his bride, The creature from the black lagoon, two mummy's and a Wolfman. I have guest lectured at I.S.U theater department, local high schools and grade schools and for the boy scouts of america. I have earned honorary plaques from Fred Meyer corporation, The Magic valley Jaycees for contributions in masks, costumes and props to help them earn $15.000 for the after school program. I received an honorary plaque from The Bonniville county D.A.R.E program helping them earn $ 80.000 to help keep kids off drugs and out of trouble. I have sold masks and costumes all over the world and at least one mask to someone in every one of the United states. I aspire to to create things just as they are created in Hollywood and thus raise my standards as high as possible.
